2017 BMW 5 Series India Launch, Specs, Price, Images, Design and more

The new BMW 5-Series sedan was globally unveiled in October 2016. It replaces the immensely successful F10 model that is currently on sale in India. The new 5 series features more space, is lighter and hence is quicker than the outgoing car. It is expected that BMW will launch the 2017  5-Series in India in the later half of 2017. BMW is already testing the 5 series on Indian roads by importing few of them to the country. A test vehicle was spotted recently in Pune covered with camouflage. It is expected that the new 2017 BMW 5 Series would be launched in India in the second half of 2017. The main rival, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be replaced by another model (the Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2017)  this year as well.

The prices of the BMW 5 Series in India could start at Rs. 55 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base model while the top end model, the M-Sport  could cost around Rs. 65 lakh. The M5 will later join the 5-Series lineup in India which could cost around Rs 1.4 crore.

It is very likely that on the new 5 series, India will get one petrol engine and  two diesel engine options. The petrol version would get a 3.0 L engine that would pump out a whopping 249 BHP  of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. As far as the diesel variants are concerned – 520d and 530d- will get a 2.0 L and a 3.0 L diesel engines respectively. An 8 speed automatic transmission would be a standard across all models. The upcoming new generation BMW 5 series models build would be based on the design of the outgoing 5-Series. It also shares design cues from BMW’s flagship 7-Series sedan. BMW’s signature the- “Kidney Grille” is now larger and looks more upright with the headlamps cleanly flowing into it. Talking about the  sides, they feature a 7-Series like vent placed behind the front wheel arch with chrome or black detailing based on its trim. Overall, the design bears slight resemblance to the older car. This is very much  noticeable in the rear angles of the 5-Series. Like most modern BMWs the fog lamps,  the headlights and the tail lamps and full LED units.

Like the exteriors, the interiors of the new 2017 BMW 5-Series is more of a revamped version of the previous model’s design. The major notable changes in the interiors are in the form of increased dimensions leading to bigger leg space for the comfort of the rear passengers. This would be a big advantage for Indian buyers as the cars in these segments are mostly chauffeur driven. Undoubtedly the car will be packed with great features that would justify its cost.
