The year 2018 is going to be an awesome year for the automobile sector. Top carmakers will be launching their best cars in 2018. Some of them are expected to make their debut in Auto Expo 2018. This is the biggest auto show in India which is slated to be held from 9th February 2018 to 14th February 2018 at Greater Noida, near Delhi. Here are the 7 most anticipated upcoming cars 2018 lined up for the launching in 2018:
- Hyundai Santro
Expected Launch: Second half of 2018 (confirmed)
If you ask “who” made Hyundai famous in India, the answer is clear: The Santro series. The market response was crazy that made Hyundai to can get 7% market penetration at that time. It was launched on 23 September 1998 which made Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) the second largest automobile manufacturer in the country. Even Hyundai became the largest car exporter in India. But, that was past time victory.
After that runaway success, HMIL has not been faring with the same pace in the Indian budget car segment. Now the Korean car manufacturer tries to gives a comeback. To get a piece of the budget segment pie, Hyundai will bring the Santro back to India. Of course, with all-new design. It is indicated by the C-pillar that will be used.
The new vehicle would be powered by the 1.0-litre Eon petrol engine that will produce a maximum of 685.5 Bhp – 94 Nm. The new Hyundai Santro will be placed between Eon and Grand i10 engine and is going to replace i10. It is inspired by the ix-Metro concept vehicle. The production itself has been started in the Chennai plant of Hyundai.
With the booming budget car segment, the 2018 Hyundai Santro will come face to face with a lot of rivals. Maruti Suzuki has been the best sellers. Not to forget Renault Kwid, Tata Tiago, Celerio, Datsun redi-GO.
The Hyundai Santro 2018 price is estimated to be between Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh.
- Mahindra S201
Expected Launch: June 2018
The Mumbai headquartered car manufacturing corporation is working hard to bring a new compact SUV to the Indian market. A heavily modified version of the SsangYong Tivoli, the car is being codenamed as S201. Mahindra will launch two different versions of the SUV to cater to the market needs. One version would be a 5 seater, while the otherwould be a 7-seat S201.
Mahindra believes that the Indian market has a lot of 7-seat seakers and it doesn’t intertwine with 5-seater SUV market. The S201 is developed on the same Tivoli platform. However, the exteriors are heavily upgraded for the Indian market. The interior lay out probably remain same as the Tivoli.
It is expected to be powered by both diesel and petrol engine options. The diesel engine will be a 1.5 litre direct injection that churns 125 Bhp. While the petrol engine will be a 1.2 litre direct injection motor producing 140 Bhp power. The concept will be displayed during 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi.
The SUV is expected to be priced at around 9.99 lakh.
- Maruti Swift
Expected Launch: February 10, 2018
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift 2017 shares its platform with Maruti Baleno and the latest Ignis. Speaking of its Indian debut, it will become Suzuki’s first car using SHVS mild-hybrid tech. The latest technology with the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol motor! The Swift Competes with hatchbacks such as Ford Figo, Fiat Punto, Volkswagen Polo, and Hyundai Grand i10.
Maruti launched the all-new Dzire earlier this year. It becomes popular. That’s why auto fans expect Maruti Suzuki Swift to be the best-selling car in India. The all new Swift will also lose a lot of weight and perform better than the current model.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.3 litre diesel engine. Both of them are coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. The latest Swift claimed to be able to deliver mileage of 20.4 kmpl for the petrol, 25.2 kmpl for the diesel.
Speaking comfort and safety side, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift comes with standard package. Such as A/C, power steering, 5 seating capacity, and 204-litres boot space. It uses central lock, parking sensor, airbags, and brake assist.
Marui Swift price estimated to be around 4.8 – 7.46 lakh (ex-showroom).
4. Tata X451
Tata X451 will be the first car launched on Tata’s new Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). It gets a very futuristic design as an outcome of Tata’s Indian combined with European design teams. The car probably powered by the new 1.5 litre-engine that is available with Nexon type. Its concept is expected to be displayed at 2018 Delhi Auto Expo.
So, what’s new in Tata X451?
Basically, Tata will shift its design language to attract more buyers. Some credible sources believe that Tata X451 will share its styling cues from the Nexon compact SUV. The price will be lower than Nexon. It is likely around Rs 5 lakh to 7.5 lakh. The brand plans to reduce the number of the platform from six to two in the future.
- Honda Amaze
Expected Launch: Early 2018
As Amaze becomes popular in sub-4 meter sedan segment, Honda plans to do some big changes in the all new Amaze. The new Amaze has been spied at Honda’s Tapukara plant. The car will be roomier but still under 4-meter mark. It is also expected to put more powerful version.
Honda Amaze launch is expected in two types. The petrol series will use i-VTEC Petrol Engine in 1.2 litre with a programmed fuel injection system. It gives you high power output with high fuel efficiency. The MT transmission type mileage is 17.8 km/l and able to produce 88ps. The other option would be 1.5 litre diesel engine.
- Datsun Go Cross
Nissan’s budget car division, Datsun, unveiled the concept car: Go-Cross. A production-spec model will soon launch in Indonesia. But it will also be produced in India. There are good chances that it will be displayed in Auto Expo 2018. The design and spare parts shares in plenty with the Go+ MPV and is a 7 seater.
Altought it may be too early to predict, it is expected that the Datsun Go Cross 2018 price will start at Rs 5.5 Lakhs. The component sharing will help Datsun to lower the price. Not only that, Datsun India will use high level-localization to keep the costs really low.
The dimension will be 3999 X 1685 X 1550 mm (Length x Width x Height) with 347 L boot space. Using 1.2 L petrol, 5 speed transmission, Datsun Go Cross can reach maximum 67 bhp power and 104 Nm torque.
- Nissan Kicks

- Nissan Kicks shares its platform with Renault’s Kaptur
Unlike its international counterparts who uses Nissan’s V platform, the one coming to India will share its M0 underpinnings with Renault’s kaptur. Why? With many models based on a single platform and heavy localization, Nissan (and of course Renault) will be able to keep the price low.
- It shares engines with the Terrano
The Kicks is also expected to share its engines with Renault models, along with the platform. It means Nissan Kicks will get the tried-and-tested 1.5 litre K9K diesel engine.
- Planned to sold at 30,000 units
Nissan has set itself on ambitious target of selling 30K units in its first full year of production. With additional of 20,000 units headed around the world.
It is expected to launch in October 2018 at a price between 9 – 12 lakh.
