What Mahindra & Mahindra prepares to win over the battle between Toyota Fortuner? Is it really born to fight Toyota Fortuner and win the battle? In this article, you will get all answers and know every necessary points of Mahindra XUV 700 such as; its normal value, highlights, outline, adversaries, dispatch, and mileage.
Before we begin, you may realize that premium mid-size SUV segment is quite huge market in India. But, currently it is being dominated by the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. Therefore, Mahindra & Mahindra plans to launch a model of its own to get a piece of the pie. But, they don’t develop a new model in-house. Like what they did with its current flagship model, Mahindra XUV 500. Instead, they will use its South Korean brand, SsangYong.
As you know, the current SsangYong Rexton is sold as SsangYong product in India. But, for the next-gen SsangYong Rexton, that won’t be the case. The all-new SsangYong Rexton will be rebadged as a Mahindra XUV700 like what will we cover today.
So, what’s the difference?
The redesigned SsangYong Rexton (we will call it XUV 700) will be the production version of the LIV-2 concept. The concept already showcased at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and got huge positive response. But, not in India. Only 146 units sold from January to November last year.
That’s why its Mahindra-badged India version will have design tweaks, heavily localized, and better features catered to Indian market.
The new SUV will mark Mahindra’s entry into the premium SUV market. The price is estimated somewhere around Rs 22 lakh. It will be based on 2018 Ssangyon Rexton. It is essentially the prod-version of LIV-2 concept. Internally, the codename is known as the Y400.
For your information, The XUV 700 will have a long wheelbase of 2,865 mm. This means, it has generous legspace. XUV 700 engines will be a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, Turbo diesel mated to 6-speed manual and 7-speed AT.
The engine produces max power of 185 BHP and peak torque of 420 Nm. The diesel edition is expected to offer a maximum mileage of 15 kmpl.
From the Design point of view, we can see that Mahindra XUV 700 will be a lot similar to 2018 SsangYong Rexton. However, there are unique styling touches. Such as a new grille upfront, a new set of alloy wheels.
The design of the upcoming cars is intense. It has outline components like flared wheel curves and a striking shoulder-line. It looks high and wide from sides and equally intimidating from rear. Initially seen on the Tivoli, the front grille signifies a bird in flight sort of design. What makes it interesting is the headlight can be integrated into the grille seamlessly.
The front gets chrome treatment on both upper and lower side. Above the grille and on the lower bumper. It gives stronger premium effect. The side features two strong shoulder lines like what I already mentioned before. It runs on the entire length of the SUV and meets into the bumper.
You will also be amazed with the strong and smooth A-pillar and D-pillar that enhancing the sporty appeal of the Mahindra XUV 700.
You may also know that the Ssangyong Rexton comes loaded with 20 inch wheels. But many believe that XUV 700 might lower the size in order to achieve better comfort and reliability.
Along with the exterior, the interior design will be styled to reinforce its sporty aura. The interior will feature roomiest cabin. It uses Nappa Leather that adorns a quilted stitch seat pattern. The seats also electrically adjustable with a memory function. Overall, the layout of the cabin looks practical and premium with the dashboard featuring a massive 9.2 inch infotainment system.
The dashboard itself looks simple and features several horizontal elements. Mahindra will also add some contemporary elements and high tech in-cabin tech, to infuse it with up market looks.

Mahindra is seriously evaluating new Rexon SUV feasibility for the Indian market from a cost perspective. That’s why Mahindra & Mahindra should create a better cost-wise product.
