Many automakers have already announced price increase of their products in India beginning the New Year 2018. Following the trend of other automakers, the Jeep too has announced the price rise for its Jeep Compass SUV from January 2018 as per a report published in Economic Times. The price increase is attributed to the rise in the cost of inputs which is being passed on to the consumer. The price rise would be between 2-4%. However there would be no price rise for its Compass Sport Petrol variant which would remain unchanged at 15.16 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The 2-4% price rise on other variants would amount to a hike in prices up to Rs. 80,000. This is the second price hike after implementation of GST by government of India in July 2017 when the company raised the Compass prices up to Rs. 72,000.
Presently, the jeep Compass price for base variant starts at Rs. 15.16 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) whereas the top end variant is priced at Rs. 21.37 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Jeep has registered a remarkable sales growth of its Compass SUV since its launch four month back. It has already sold over 10,000 units so far after the launch. This puts the variant in one of the most successful SUV from the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) stable which is emerging as a strong challenger to Mahindra XUV500. The company is also exporting the SUV to many right hand drive market from Indian manufacturing facility at Ramjangaon, near Pune, Maharashtra making it a global hub for the Jeep Compass SUV.
Jeep is also coming up with an automatic variant next year. The automatic variant is likely to be showcased at the forthcoming Delhi Motor Show, the Auto Expo to be held from 9th February to 14th February in Greater Noida, near Delhi. Presently, the Jeep Compass comes with two engine variants which are both turbocharged. The 1.4 litre Multiair petrol engine delivers a power of 160 Bhp and 250 Nm torque. This engine is available with two transmission options, first being a 6 speed manual and second a 7 speed twin clutch automatic. The petrol variant is front wheel driven.
The diesel engine is a 2 litre Multijet unit sourced from Fiat which delivers a power of 170 Bhp and 350 Nm torque. The diesel variant comes with front wheel and four wheel drive options, the later being the top end Limited variant. The engine is mated with a 6 speed manual gear box.
The Jeep Compass SUV Sports features rich cabin with 5-inch UConnect Touch Screen infotainment system in the base variant and 7-inch touch screen display with Android Auto and apple CarPlay compatibility in case of the higher variant. It also includes keyless entry, start/stop buttons, automatic climate control, s6-speaker audio system and much more.
