The base price of the car is tagged at $35,000 (INR 22,00,000). The company has already booked over half a million cars which has risen from about 3,73,000 disclosed by the company in April, 2016. The booking amount for the car is set at $1000 refundable and any new buyers are not likely to receive their car until the end of 2018. The loner-range variant of the car is priced at $44,000 (INR 28,00,000) which can drive 500km on a single charge. The dashboard of the car has no conventional buttons or knobs but has been equipped with streamlined center mounted 15 inch touch screen display board. The car is equipped with auto pilot hardware and the engine has power to accelerate from zero to 100 km in six seconds. The top speed of the car is 210 kmph and has a seating capacity for five adults. The company states that the Model 3 is designed to achieve “5-Star Safety Ratings” in every category. The introduction of Model 3 is a part of Musk’s larger plan to build the Tesla as a clean energy transportation company offering electric semi trucks, roof top solar energy systems and large scale battery storage systems.

The company is likely to announce the detailed specifications and features in the coming days.

While Tesla has created a big hype about the Model 3 electric car, it faces tough hurdles to live up to the hype. Tesla expects to manufacture 20,000 cars per month by December, 2017 and has plans to produce 500,000 vehicles next year which will be nearly six times of its 2016 production. With the production target of 500,000 Model 3 cars per year, the company is likely to outperform BMW, Mercedes, or Lexus brands in the United States.

The Model 3 car is expected to be available in India by second half of the next year with an expected launch price of around Rs. 30 to 35 lacs.
