SUVs or Sports Utility Vehicles have grown immensely popular not just in India but in the international markets as well. It is also one of the rare subcompact SUVs that can seat 7  people with the additional jump seats in the boot and is offered with the 1.5-litre engine paired to a manual and AMT gearbox options. For those who are looking for a fuel efficient SUV without compromising on looks and space, the TUV300 is a great choice for its price. Additionally there is also a more powerful mHawk100 variant that pumps out 100 bhp of power .

7. Mahindra Thar

Its true that Mahindra very well knows its SUVs right and the Thar can be easily called as its one of its proudest creations. Mahindra brought  no-frills SUV back with the Mahindra Thar that has put the focus back on off-roading. The facelifted version arrived in 2015 and is currently on sale with new and safer bumpers, a slightly premium cabin and air conditioning on the top variants. Apart from this there was also the addition of a limited slip differential for better control when traversing difficult terrain. The Mahindra Thar is available in a 2.5-litre and a 2.6-litre diesel engine, which comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

As mentioned earlier this tough and rugged SUV borrows its styling from the French partner Renault’s very popular model Duster. The AMT equipped version of the Terrano and was introduced last year. The only disappointing bit of the vehicle is that it does not come with a 4 wheel drive.

 10. Force Gurkha

The Force Gurkha is one of the most underrated SUVs in the country. The primary reason for this is its pan India unavailability . This is the reason that not many know what the Gurkha is capable of off-road.  And for those who know, they swear by the machine. However, 2017 has seen the Force Gurkha get a list of updates including a BS-IV compliant engine. It is available in 3-door and 5-door versions. The Gurkha’s design is identical to that of the  Mercedes G-Wagen.  It also borrows its off-road presence and style from the same car. Very much like the Mahindra Thar, it is a bare bones model inside the cabin but one does get essentials like a manual AC unit, new four-spoke steering wheel and a redesigned floor console. It is also a lot more rigid than earlier and is offered with a 18 months and unlimited kilometers warranty, allowing one to get the most out of it.
