There have been some exciting launches in the Indian Car Market in 2016, right from the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza to the Nissan GT-R. But we Indians always want more. A lot of exciting cars would be launched in 2016 which includes a range of models in every segment. Here is a compilation of the top 10 cars scheduled to be launched in 2017.
Upcoming Cars in India in 2017
1. Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS
The Baleno has already become a very popular choice among the Indian buyers. Maruti Suzuki, the market leader, revealed the new and sportier version of the Baleno as the Baleno RS at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Baleno RS is one of the most anticipated car among the upcoming cars in India. The car has been seen being tested on Indian roads. There are hardly any differences in terms of looks in the regular Baleno and Baleno RS version. However there is a major difference. The Baleno RS comes with a 1.0-litre BoosterJet, 3 cylinder, direct injection, turbo petrol engine which pumps out 112 Bhp of power and a peak torque of 175 Nm.
The Baleno RS will have an updated interior. The primary improvement will include aluminium finish pedals, minimal chrome inserts, all-black theme and sporty front seats with cross stitched upholstery. The Baleno RS is scheduled to be launched in the early part of 2017.

2. Maruti Suzuki Ignis
Maruti Suzuki had unveiled its sub-compact crossover, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, at the Auto Expo 2016. The Ignis is one of the most awaited upcoming cars in India. The car would enter the segment of sub-4 metre SUV-styled cars and would compete directly with the recently launched Mahindra KUV 100. The much awaited car will feature tall proportions and a highly styled front which also includes big U-shaped LED DRLs in the head-lamp units that are imparted with the front grille.
Though it would share most of its design with the Japanese Ignis, the made for India Ignis would come with some SUV-like traits like the Suzuki’s All Grip AWD system , flared wheel arches, and a 180mm ground clearance. Other features expected to be derived from the global model include – Bluetooth equipped media system and USB/AUX-IN, Suzuki’s adaptive Dual Camera Braking System (DCBS), camera equipped front and rear parking sensors,and hill decent control. EBD and ABS would most likely come as standard fitments. Also, the Ignis would have on offer dual front airbags right from base variant. The engine options are likely to be a 1.2 L petrol engine and a 1.3 L Diesel engine . Its also heard that the Ignis would also come with with the 1.0-litre BoosterJet motor. The engines would be mated with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT unit.

3. New Generation Hyundai Verna
Its been a while since the last Hyundai Verna upgrade in India. The Verna got a facelift in 2015 and Hyundai is now working on the new-gen model which is set to be launched in 2017. The new generation Hyundai Verna based on the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, is angular and bears resemblance to the all-new Elantra sedan. The swept back headlamps are evocative of the ones on the existing model but due to the overall design of the car, the front now looks sharper and better . The bumper would get angular fog lamps. while the cluster comes with projector lights, LED DRLs.
The cabin looks classy with an all black and brushed silver finish. A large 8-inch touchscreen display console with an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options (which we’ve seen in the Elantra) will be at the centre of the dashboard. Other features will include auto climate control,push button start sunroof and much more.
To power the 2017 Hyundai Verna will be the 1.4-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engine. The engines would pump out 98bhp and 120bhp of peak power respectively. The engines would be mated with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission. The automatic transmission would be available only on the 1.6-litre versions of the car.

4. Tata Hexa
Tata is all set to shake the passenger car market with its upcoming car – Tata Hexa. Talking about the exterior, the car looks to be a modified and better styled version of the Tata Aria. After launch, the Aria replacement will become Tata’s flagship model offering.
The Tata Hexa features gets a muscular design, a redesigned air dam, Tata’s signature honeycomb mesh front grille, and projector head-lamps. The Tata Hexa gets a solid styling. Thanks to the horizontal LED tail-lamp clusters ,blacked out door pillars and huge wheel arches with rubber wrapped 19-inch alloys. The cabin boasts of a host of intelligent driver aids like an intelligent media system, premium quality materials as well as 2 individual bucket seats in the middle row. The Tata Hexa will be equipped with ESP, ambient lighting, 6 airbags, rain-sensing wipers and auto head-lamps. It would be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel unit which will deliver 154bhp of power and 400Nm of torque, mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Volkswagen has proved in the last two years that it wants some serious business in the Indian market. The launch of cars like the Polo GTI , new-gen Beetle, the all-new Ameo, means that Volkswagen is trying its best to expand its product portfolio in India with products from different segments. Now Vokswagen is all set to enter the premium SUV segment with the launch of the new Tiguan SUV. Scheduled to be launched in the early part of the 2017, the new Volkswagen Tiguan is based on the manufacturers popular MQB platform and comes with a host of new cosmetic and design changes.

6. Nissan X Trail Hybrid
Nissan unveiled the X-Trail Hybrid in India at the 2016 Auto Expo. On its launch, the Nissan X- Trail would be the only hybrid SUV available in India. India would be the 4th country to get the Nissan X Trail Hybrid. The X Trail was discontinued from India a few years ago due to its low sales. This time, the car is built on a completely new platform and will be launched at a time when Indian buyers are looking to buy premium SUVs . Built on the CMF-C platform, the X -Trail would be the first car in India built on this platform.
The SUV with dimensions of 4,640mm in length, 1,820mm in width and 1,715mm in height will have a 5-seater layout. The wheelbase is 2,705mm. The Nissan X- Trail will be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine which will pump out a whopping 142 Bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. Along with it is a 31kW electric motor that is coupled with the engine would takes the total power output to 183bhp. The engine will be mated with a X-CVT transmission unit which can be specified with an AWD system. Since the Nissan X-Trail Hybrid come as a Completely Built Unit in India, it would have a premium price tag.

7. New-Gen Toyota Camry
Toyota is all set to launch the new generation Camry sedan and hybrid in India in 2017. The Camry has been one of the best-selling models in Toyota’s line-up of cars both globally and in India. The enormous success the Camry hybrid sedan in India has got is an example of this. The Camry will be launched in both its sedan and hybrid models. Toyota claims that the model will offer improved comfort and handling. Above all, Toyota says that the New- Gen Toyota Camry would be fun to drive and quality performer sedan.
The technical specifications of the Camry have not been revealed so far. However, it is believed that price wise and specification wise, Toyota will launch a range of different variants to suit different markets.

8. Tata Kite 5
Apart from the Tata Hexa, Tata Motors will also introduce the Kite5 (codename) subcompact sedan sometime in 2017. The Kite 5 was one of the key attractions at the Tata pavilion during the 2016 Auto Expo and received a very positive response for its refreshing looks and design. The Tata Kite 5 can be called a booted version of the Tiago. The car is expected to get a new name at its launch. However the specifications and features will be shared with the Tata’s popular new hatchback- the Tiago.
The Kite 5 will be powered by the same 1.05-litre diesel and 1.2-litre petrol three-cylinder engines as that of the Tiago. Both engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is believed that Tata will bring in an AMT version as well later. Just for information, the Tata Tiago as well is also expected to get an AMT unit in 2017.

9. Tata Nexon
The Tata Nexon can be another product that could be a game changer for the Tata. The Nexon subcompact SUV made its debut as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo. Later in 2016 a more production ready version was on display at the Auto Expo. The sub 4-metre car will be competing with the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra TUV300 and various other cars in this segment.
Although the specifications are not yet out, the Tata Nexon is expected to have a 1.2-litre petrol and probably a newly developed 1.5-litre diesel engine. The engines would be paired with a 6-speed manual and AMT transmission units. The interiors of the Nexon would be packed with features like a touchscreen infotainment system, smartphone connectivity and many more. Upon launch, the Nexon would be the smallest SUV from the Indian car manufacturer.

Jeep finally made its entry to India in 2016. Though the current SUVs are heavily priced, the Jeep plans to bring affordable SUVs in India the later part of 2017. The Jeep plans to manufacture the Jeep Compass in India itself, Hence the cost would be comparatively lower. The Jeep Compass was recently unveiled in Brazil and shares its mechanical specifications with the Renegade compact SUV.
