This is primarily due to great fuel-efficiency, low price as well as low cost of maintenance. There is no doubt that scooter sales are also very high, with the Honda Activa currently at the top of the sales charts of two wheelers. However, it is the entry level motorcycle segment which contribute a bigger share to the overall two-wheeler sales. Priced at Rs 29,998 (ex-showroom Delhi), the Bajaj CT100B is the cheapest bike in India right now. The CT100B has a round headlamp. It’s design is bare-bones with wire-spoke wheels. It gets it’s power from a 99.2 cc , single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. The engine pumps out 8 bhp of power and 8 Nm of torque. With a claimed figure of 99.1 kmpl it is also the  most fuel efficient bike in India.

The CT100 costs Rs 4,000 more than the CT100 B and boasts of alloy wheels and  around the headlamp has a small bikini fairing. The CT100 and CT 100 B are the top selling models for Bajaj Auto with over 4.5 lakh units sold in the 2016-17 financial year.

With a price of Rs 37,780 (ex-showroom Delhi), the  TVS Sport is the second chepaest bike on sale in India.  This price is of the base model with kick-start and spoked wheels. It is powered by a single-cylinder, air-cooled, 99.7 cc engine.  The TVS Sport boasts returns a mileage of 95 kmpl. It features large 130 mm drum brakes, five-step adjustable rear shocks  and has a sporty look. At this price, the TVS Sport definitely looks more  premium and well-built product compared to its competitors in the commuter bike segment. The engine pumps out just 7.7 bhp of power and 7.8 Nm of torque. The TVS Sport is one of the highest selling TVS bikes in the country. In the 2017 financial year itself, the TVS Sport sold over 1.7 lakh units.

After the Splendor, the Hero HF Deluxe is the second highest selling Hero motorcycle in India.  This is also the cheapest bike on offer from Hero MotoCorp. The Hero HF Deluxe has a reputation of being a fuel-efficient yet robust and low maintenance bike. It is powered by a single-cylinder, 97.2 cc,  four-stroke engine. The HF Deluxe returns a claimed mileage of 88.5 kmpl. The base model is priced at Rs 42,83. The HF Deluxe also comes in two more variants  – the HF Deluxe i3S with Hero’s start-stop technology for Rs 46,630 and the HF Deluxe Eco for Rs 47,130. In FY 2017, more than 14 lakh HF Deluxe bikes were sold.

4. Bajaj Platina 100 ES

The Bajaj Platina 100 ES  has two variants on offer- one with wire-spoked wheels and the other with alloy wheels. The Platina 100 ES carries some of the best-in-class features, which include a soft cushioned seat, a longer front suspension as well as extra-long double spring rear suspension. The single-cylinder, air-cooled, 102 cc s engine churns out just 8 bhp of power and 8.6 Nm of torque. The Platina 100 ES is one of the most fuel-efficient bikes on sale with a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 96.9 kmpl (ARAI tested figures). The Bajaj Platina 100 ES standard variant is priced at  Rs 42,990 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The other model i.e the alloy wheel variant costs Rs 45,985 (ex-showroom Delhi).

5. Honda CD 110 Dream

Priced at just Rs 45,002, the Honda CD 110 Dream is HMSI ‘s (Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India’s) cheapest bike on sale. This price is of the base kick-start variant.  The Honda CD 110 Dream, also comes in two other variants – the Dream Neo and the Dream Yuga. These bikes contribute to a major portion of HMSI’s motorcycle sales in India. . The bike gets its power from a single-cylinder, 110 cc, four-stroke engine. The engine churns out 8.31 bhp of power and 9.09 Nm of torque. The Dream claims a fuel mileage of 74 kmpl. It boasts of several best in class features like high ground clearance tubeless tyres as well as a company-fitted carrier. There are three other models of the dream. They are- a kick-start with carrier (Rs 45,294),  a self-start (Rs 47,202) and a self-start with carrier (Rs 47,494). These prices are ex-showroom Delhi. The Dream bikes sold over 2.7 lakh units in the FY2017.
