Yamaha unveiled its R15 v3 in Indonesia in January 2017. Since then, Yamaha has launched R15 new generations in many other countries, except India. But, something has changed. Soon. Yap. You’re right.
Yamaha R15 v3 is expected to be launched In India in the next January or February 2018. Even it can be within less than a month!
Until the post published, Yamaha India has not confirmed anything. But, we got information that at selected dealerships, the bookings have opened. We hope the launch will be next month and expect deliveries can start earlier.
For those who’ve been waiting for V3 since January 2017, it is definitely great news. And of course, there’s a bad news. It is highly possible that the India-spec version won’t be a full fledged R15 v3 like what we see in international markets. What will we get in India? A cheaper variant! With minimum hardware and features upgrades.
So, here we go. The date, pricing, features, specifications, and some trivial facts you want to know about the new Yamaha R15 v3 India-spec.
The Yamaha R15 v3 Launch Date Estimation
As suggested by the images you’re going to see here at India Autoz, the newest version of Yamaha R15 has started arriving at dealerships. So, there’s another unconfirmed information abound is that the new model R15 will be published in January.
However, speculations are all over the places that the new R15 India launch would make its debut at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018, to be held from 9th February to 14 th February 2018.
Predict the launch date from the brake
There’s something interesting about the braking system. If you deduct conclusion from it, you will believe that Yamaha will launch the motorcycle before April 2018. How we can be sure?
If you see the spy image you know that the bike has no ABS, but so does the international model. We are safe to assume that Yamaha is most likely to launch it on first quarter of 2018. We all know that according to upcoming regulations, it is mandatory for automakers for equipping all bike models above 125 cc with ABS for the launches planned on or after April 1.
What about the existing models?
They will, however have a deadline of one more year, April 1, 2019, to get equipped with ABS.
As you can see the fairing has been redesigned, with the fuel tank that can contain up to 11 litres against the previous versions. The v2.0 get bigger fuel tank. It can contain 12 litres. Another improvement we can notice is unlike its predecessor, v3 instrument cluster is now made fully digital.
The new Yamaha R15 v3 India specs flaunts its attractiveness by showing R1/R6 inspired style. While the side gets sharp bodywork, the split headlamps are separated by a large intake. If we check the rear side, it is easily to notice that the R1/R6 style hollowed out tail section is lower than R15 v2. This is a great improvement.
R15 v3 India Specifications
The moto bike which is about to be launched doesn’t look a lot like its international counterpart. In other words, the India-spec is more of a facelift. Not an all-new model. We all know that on other countries, such as Indonesia, Yamaha R15 v3 get extreme change. But, it is quite strongly believe that the India-spec is based on the v2 but comes with new body panels and new engine.

The power upgrade is substantial on the new R15 over its predecessor, while torque has seen a dip. As you can read on the table, from the engine side, the new Yamaha R15 version 3.0 is powered by 155.1 cc VVA SOHC. It is capable to churn out 19.31 PS maximum power. Along with 14.7 Nm of peak torque. The current model uses 149 cc that produces 16.7 bhp and 15 Nm of torque.
Another fact that you need to know is that the India-spec model, gets the same swingarm and suspension. While on the other side, the international model gets a slightly different USD front forks and wheelbase. The bike spied also still use MRF tyres instead of the IRC ones seen on the Indonesian-spec motorcycles.
Unfortunately, the slipper clutch is not expected to be featured. It may be a huge disadvantage because it’s quite “best-selling point” feature. Foot pegs are same as the previous version and not the alumunium assembly. Another difference between Indian-spec and international spec is the front fender. The Indian-spec will get same V2 like front fender. Not the sportier and broader of the v3.
What about the color? The new Yamaha R15 v3 has a Matte Black paint scheme, in addition to matt red and race blue version. The positions of saddle height and seat have also been raised for better rider and pillion rider comforts. Last but not least, LED headlamps, slipper clutch, and aggressive fairing are also a part of the features that worth to note on the Yamaha R15 v.30.
R15 v3 India-spec Mileage
If we use it for daily commute on the city road, the motorcycle will consume only 35 kmpl. And if we ride it on highway, it may be 40 kmpl. In other words, we predict that the average mileage will be a bit lower than the current version.
Yamaha R15 v3 Pricing
Currently, the price is roughly Rs 1.20 lakh for the R15 v2. The new 2017 R15 is likely somewhere between 1,3 – 1,4 Lakh (ex-showroom).
At this point, we all ask the same question. First, why Yamaha India is working towards launching a heavily downgraded R15 v3 instead of the real deal?
It’s pretty easy to answer:
To keep the price in check. You know, the international spec R15 v3 costs about Rs 1.7 lakh. If this version is fully loaded in Indian market, there will be a few buyers. This is why Yamaha keeps pending its launching in India. So, the automakers try to solve the problem. They aim to replace the existing Yamaha R15 v2 with v3 on the almost same price.
