It seems that commuter motorcycles will never get out fashion in India. Specially in rural areas, they are one of the most used forms. An average motorcycle buyer in India, more often than not will always have fuel efficiency as a prime consideration when opting to buy a motorcycle. It is also true that the number of enthusiast-centric motorcycles has seen tremendous growth over the last few years both in terms of new models offered as well as the sales.  However, the focus of the top two-wheeler manufacturers such as Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI),  TVS, Bajaj, Hero MotoCorp,  etc has always been on commuter motorcycles.

The highest-selling bikes in the Indian two-wheeler market are all commuter bikes quite obviously, which offer both – low maintenance and great fuel efficiency. As India does not have a fuel mileage testing program on the lines of World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC) which offer real world fuel efficiency figures, we will consider the fuel efficiency figures claimed by the manufacturer, in accordance with  ARAI’ s ( Automotive Research Association of India) testing policies. So here is the list of 5 Most Fuel Efficient Bikes in India.

1. Bajaj CT100


With a claimed fuel efficiency of a whopping 99.1 kmpl, the Bajaj CT100 is the most fuel efficient bike in India. Bajaj had launched the CT 100 in 2015 with slight changes. The CT100 is very  popular in rural areas of the country as well. It is offered in two variants. The other variant of the CT100 being CT100B which is essentially the same as the CT100 but without the upfront fairing and a round headlamp. The CT100B is cheaper than the regular CT100 by Rs 4000. The CT 100 is powered by a 99 cc motor that pumps out around 8 bhp of power and 8 Nm of torque. The CT100’s prices start at Rs 35,389 Ex-showroom, Delhi.

2. Bajaj Platina 100ES


The Bajaj Platina 100ES can be said to be a slightly more premium version of the CT100. The engine output is almost similar with the Platina making 8.6 Nm of torque as compared to 8.05 Nm on the CT100. The company-claimed fuel mileage of the Bajaj Platina is 96.9 kmpl. The difference between the CT100 and the Bajaj Platina 100ES is the styling. The Bajaj Platina also gets Bajaj’s DTS-i twin spark ignition tech, which makes for better fuel-air combustion, which leads to better performance and efficiency. It has been more than 10 years since the Platina has been launched in India and its has always done a good job for Bajaj when it comes to sales figures. The prices for the Platina 100ES start at Rs 45,985 ex-showroom, Delhi.

3. TVS Sport


Last year TVS launched a refreshed version of its  Sport commuter motorcycle. Some of the primary updates include a new instrument cluster, aluminium grab handles and a chrome guard for the silencer. There is a marginal increase in the fuel efficiency too. The TVS Sport can boasts of a mileage of 95 kmpl. It gets it power from a 99.77 cc motor that makes 7.7 bhp and 7.8 Nm. With a starting price of Rs 37,780, it also becomes one of the most affordable bikes in our list after the CT100.

4. Hero Splendor Pro


The Hero Splendor has been one of the largest selling motorcycle  in India for a long long time. At least uptill the Honda Activa came in. Having said that, the Splendor is still a hot  favorite in rural areas of the country. Not just for its fuel efficiency,  the Splendor was always preferred for its low maintenance as well. The Spelndor’s claimed mileage is 93.2 kmpl. The Splendor comes in different variants like the Splendor Pro, Splendor+, Splendor i3S and the Splendor iSmart 110. The Splendor iSmart was also a part of the Splendor line-up, however it was discontinued a couple of months ago. Had it still been in productionn, it would have been the most fuel efficient bike in India and obviously in our list, with a claimed mileage of 102.5 kmpl.

5. Hero HF Deluxe


The fifth motorcycle in our list is the Hero HF Deluxe range. We use the term range here as there are three HF Deluxe variants on offer currently – HF Deluxe, HF Deluxe i3S and HF Deluxe Eco. All of them are powered by the same 97.2 cc engine which makes 8.24 bhp of power and 8.05 Nm of torque. Earlier, there used to be an HF Dawn model as well, which was discontinued just a few months ago. The  HF Deluxe range returns a claimed mileage of 88.5 kmpl. The most affordable HF Deluxe model comes for Rs 42,830 while the top model is priced at Rs 46,630 ex-showroom, Delhi.
