The Dominar 400 has been a great success for Bajaj Auto. Bajaj basically took a template of the Ducati Diavel and used it to make a smaller bike and that has worked wonders for the bike manufacturer. However, it was just more than the design which helped Bajaj. The KTM 390 Duke/RC 390‘s 373cc single was already into existence. All Bajaj had to do was to make the engine more suitable and capable for daily use. However, the Bajaj Dominar 200 is a different bread in this respect. One has to keep in mind that the Dominar 200’s launch may take place as late as April 2018 and at a price of Rs 1,10,000. The question is, can it achieve as much success as the Dominar 400? Let’s get to know by taking a look at the Bajaj Dominar 200 price, specifications, features and other details.
Bajaj Dominar 200
Bajaj Dominar 200- Price
|Standard variant Price*||Rs 1,10,000|
|ABS Variant Price*||Rs 1,25,000|
*estimated prices ex-showroom Delhi
The Bajaj Dominar 200 will be powered by the same engine as the Pulsar RS 200 (derived from KTM 200 Duke/RC 200). The engine will be detuned a bit to make it compatible as well as capable as per Dominar standards. To keep cost under control, the Dominar 200 might come with a single-channel ABS unit.
Bajaj Dominar 200- Launch Date
|Launch Date||April 2018|
It is likely that the Bajaj Dominar 200 will come to the market in April’ 2018. We think that Bajaj will unveil it at Auto Expo 2018. This is because the Dominar looked quite stunning in its concept form and attracted attention of many potential buyers at the previous auto expos.
Bajaj Dominar 200- Specifications
|Engine displacement and type||200cc, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, SOHC, single cylinder|
|Suspension (front/rear)||Telescopic forks/Nitrox monoshock|
|Brakes (front/rear)||Single 300mm disc with ABS/Single 230mm disc
As we mentioned earlier, the Bajaj Dominar 200’s specs will be similar to that of the Pulsar RS 200. The major difference will arise in power and torque figures, which would be on the lower side for the smaller Dominar. The rest of the components should remain unchanged. It is worth noting that Dominar 200 will get a retuned suspension. We also expect that its gear ratios will also be redone.
Bajaj Dominar 200- Mileage
|City Mileage||36 kmpl|
|Highway Mileage||40 kmpl|
With a detuned engine when compared to that of the Pulsar RS 200 means that the Dominar 200 will offer better mileage. However, do not expect it to offer a much higher mileage than its Pulsar counterpart. We say this because the Pulsar RS 200 has a full fairing to help it in aerodynamics department. Coming back to the Dominar 200, let’s just hope the wind blast is manageable at high speeds for this bike specially on highways.
Bajaj Dominar 200- Top Speed
|Top Speed||130 kmph|
Even in its detuned state, the 200cc engine of the Bajaj Dominar 200 should be able to push the bike to a top speed of 130kmph. Due to its fairing again, the bike might have to take a hit on it’s top speed. The engine’s detuned state would not do any good to the bike when it comes to the speed department.
Bajaj Dominar 200- Features
- Fuel-injected engine
- Upright ergonomics
- Digital speedo console
- Aircraft-type fuel filler cap
- Split grab rails
- Single-channel ABS
- LED taillamps
- Projector headlamps
- Disc brakes front and rear
Like most Bajaj motorcycles, the Dominar 200 too will be packed with features. Though it is true that it does have to cut some corners to keep the cost down, the Bajaj Dominar 200 still boasts of great features for its price, which is quite commendable.
Bajaj Dominar 200- Design Review
The Dominar 400, which is the elder sibling of the Bajaj Dominar 200, has a universally admired design. Bajaj seems to have got this design inspiration from a lion’s stance. The bike looks very well-proportioned. Even the wires have been hidden very well. Hence the exposed bits like the engine look very clean on this bike. The Dominar 200 is expected to look similar to maintain that familiarity with its elder sibling when it comes to design. It is also expected that Bajaj will give it a different set of alloy wheels to ensure it can be differentiated from its elder brother easily. Also due to its cost cutting, it might not come equipped with LED DRLs. Bajaj might use projector headlamps on the Dominar 200 as compared to the LED headlamps on the Dominar 400.
