Few months back, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, NItin Gadkari had stressed the need to go for all electric road transportation in India by the year 2030. The auto industry had then shown little hesitations to the possibility of achieving this ambitious target. They believed that it would take India little longer to completely discard the fossil fuel vehicles and switch over to electric vehicle road transportation. The Minister had also mentioned later that the government’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy has already been drafted by NITI Aayog, the country’s apex planning body and is under cabinet approval. It should come out in due course of time. However, if one visits the 2018 Auto Expo, the automakers look like they are preparing themselves slowly but surely to plan their forays into electric vehicles segments. This has been evidenced from the number of electric bikes & scooters as well as electric cars being unveiled at the ongoing 2018 Auto Expo.
