The Indian subsidiary of the Japanese two-wheeler giant, Yamaha India Motorcycles, plans to launch the Yamaha R15 V3 in India. The version 3.0 would replace the Version 2.0 in the entry-level of  performance bike segment of the Indian motorcycle market. The R15 V3.0 is  on sale in a few South Asian markets, like  those of Indonesia and Malaysia. Just by the looks of it, the upcoming new Yamaha R15 V3.0 looks like a slightly smaller YZF-R6. Though its true that in comparison  the new model looks considerably more attractive than the R15 V2.0, . But there’s more than just looks to the new model. It also has better specs and more number offeatures than the current model. So here in this post, we compare the new and old model in our new Yamaha R15 V3 vs old R15 V2 comparison. As of now, the Yamaha R15 has a price of Rs 1.18 lakh ex showroom New Delhi. At this price,  the full-fairing bike is the most expensive model in its class. That said, there are very high chances that the V3.0 will cost even more and would have an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 1.35 lakh.  The additional features and better specifications will help the bike justify  the increase in price.

The V 2.0 motorcycle is currently powered by a  single-cylinder, 149cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke engine. The engine boasts of SOHC technology. The engine pumps out a maximum power of 17 PS .It delivers a peak torque of 15 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Whereas in comparison, the new V3.0 comes gets a 155cc engine which benefits from forged piston as well as lighter DiASil (Direct Aluminium Silicon) cylinder. The new engine pumps out comparatively 2.31 PS of  more. However, its peak torque is rated at 0.3 Nm lower.

The engine of the V 3.0 comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. The  Indonesia model comes with a slipper clutch and a soft compound tyres from Pirelli. The India version will most likely offer a MRF rubber to keep costs in check.

The mileage won’t have a huge difference despite the higher power of the V 3.0. This is primarily because the new engine has much more modern internals that makes it  more efficient. It’s quite certain that the new V3.0 will be able to offer a fuel efficiency of around 37 kmpl at least. The V2 offers around 38 KMPL. So, the difference in mileage won’t be huge. The buyers would not have to think much when it comes to comparing the mileage of these two bikes.

The new Yamaha R15 V3 will have a comparatively more powerful as well as a slightly bigger engine. Hence,  it will lead to a higher top speed. It can be confidently said that the new motorcycle will have a top whack of around 135 KMPH. Whereas the V2 can hit a maximum velocity of roughly 130 KMPH. These figures are for the true top speed.

The new model R15 has dimensions of 1,990 mm in length, 725 mm in width, and 1,135 mm in width. The Old R15 has dimensions of 1,970 mm in length, 670 mm in width, and 1070 mm in height.  The V 3.0 has a shorter wheelbase (by 20 mm). Also,it gets a slightly smaller fuel tank by one litre.

The new version of Yamaha’s 150cc supersports bike looks more of a smaller YZF-R6. Also, it looks a lot more sportier than the R15 V2. It gets many modern body panels, which, along with the new USDs, make the V3.0 look like a bigger bike. Additionally, the new paint options and decals make the bike look much  more attractive. However, the ‘pièce de résistance’ are those stylish LED headlamps. The R15 V3.0 also gets a new speedometer and a offers a much better riding position.

  • Price- There is no doubt that  the V3.0 will be considerably costlier than the V2.0. However, the increase in price will be well justified by the more number of features.
  • Specifications- The V 3.0 offers more power, great suspension. Basically it is better when it comes to specifications.
  • Mileage- The V3.0 will offer only a slightly lower mileage.
  • Top Speed– The V 3,0 is slightly faster than the version 2.0.
  • Design- Even though design is a matter of personal taste, the V 3.0 looks more matured and modern.
